Bon Odori 盆踊り @ Johor Bahru

Obon (お盆?) or just Bon (?) is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one's ancestors. This Buddhist-Confucian custom has evolved into a family reunion holiday during which people return to ancestral family places and visit and clean their ancestors' graves, and when the spirits of ancestors are supposed to revisit the household altars. It has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon-Odori.

Just in case you are clueless of what is Bon Odori so I adapted a paragraph of it from Wikipedia to let you learn about it. =)

I saw a poster of Bon Odori early of this month and decided to go to the event. I went twice to the one in Shah Alam and once in JB but still decided to pay a visit. Since I am so enthusiastic to go, of course, I have to drag a few of my friends to join the fun with me.

It was a very last minute decision for Suhui to make a trip to JB from Melaka to join me. We also have one more friend, Kangwei to add in more fun for the trip! Thanks mummy for sending us to the shopping mall before we headed to the event. Hungry leh...that's what we shouted simultaneously after we got down from the car. Just entered a Japanese cuisine restaurant to fill the stomach.

Must must must take pictures before all our food is served. Hmmm...we didn't meet for only 2 weeks after the convocation but we cannot stop talking as if we didn't see each other for 2 years. hahaha We appreciate every second that we have for the meeting.

We were disappointed on this dish.
Don't really like the combination of fruit and rice in sushi roll.

Chicken cutlet curry rice
We were so Japanese style before the event. Maybe were just trying to blend into the culture for few hours. hahaha This is at Kinsahi Japanese cuisine restaurant.

Thank god the rain stopped if not we surely gonna give it a miss this time. Many food stalls set up, it's more like a food fair. haha
They and the empty stage.
Look!!! How cute they are in the Japanese costume - Yukata and they enjoyed dancing. I dare not dance but watch only.

So happy to meet my secondary classmate cum university-mate at the event too

A clumsy person like me definitely not suitable for this game.
I will catch no fish but end up spend a lot.
 The Japanese yoyo
 Rice cake making in progress
They allowed the spectators to have a try in hitting the rice dough.
The guys really have strength in hitting it with full bar power.
I was worried for the guy's fingers who needs to add water to the dough

The only thing bought at Bon Odori was only 2 rows of Yakult drink. It is very good to prevent constipation. Read here for more information.

Our night did not just end like that. We walked back to the mall and chatted for another 1 and a half hour at a restaurant. Arrrgghhhhh this is so fun, you kno?!!
Went back home and video call another uni-mate. Happily brought baby Angel to the camera and felt so brought as if showing off my own awesome daughter. But hey, she's my awesome niece too!!!

Shall make an end here. Have a nice day!! =D
